Anita O'Day

Out this week is a new documentary called "Anita O'Day: Life of a Jazz Singer". The above is the trailer. The "New York Times" gives it a terrific review: here.

I always liked Anita. She swings like no other white lady I've ever heard before! I had no idea she was on heroin for 15 years, had several marriages, and was arrested numerous times on drug charges. You don't see that boring bitch Diana Krall leading such a colorful life [must be why she's impossibly dull!].

Here's to you Anita! I'm putting your CDs on right now...

German Restaurants

Soys Sushi - Yep, just needed a bit of a raw fish fix while in Germany and Dresden has this place. Not a huge selection but the tuna was quite nice. And the guy on the left? He's Hmong. The German/Hmong accent cracked me up.
Didn't even attempt eating here. I'm sure it would have been serviceable, but the menu looked pretty scary. And while their website is flashy, not sure what the hell is going on.
Finally...just a guy wearing his own grill serving sausages. Click on it to get a closer look. Oh and no...didn't try this either. sigh...

Disembodied Germans

Sometimes art does imitate life. In this instance, the ass is the best part!

Gordon Kennedy aka Little John

Season 2 of "Robin Hood" on BBC America ended last week with a shocker. So shocking that I'm still thinking about it a week later!

I did some quick searches for the show and came up with this interview with Gordon Kennedy who plays Little John. Needless to say, he's one of my favorites on the show :) In the penultimate episode he was terrific.

Enjoy the Scottish accent!

Fettes Brot

While in Germany, my cousin's son told me about this group he is currently listening to. Said they were the coolest thing. I took his advice and bought a copy of this song in a maxi-single form. He's 13 or 14 (can't remember). He was right on about his Tokio Hotel recommendation, so I thought, "why not?"

Well, I finally listen to the song back home. That chorus? According to FreeTranslation.com, loosely translates to: "Bettina pack your breasts on. Bettina accused you please somewhat on."

Makes sense why this young teen boy would like this song. Watch the video and you can tell what it's about - BOOBS translate in any language!

Oh and Fettes Brot = Fat Bread!

Sunset Blvd. - Betty Buckley

Holy crap! What a great find! This was from the Olivier Awards in London way back when.

Not only is it Betty - my darling! - but John Barrowman as Joe Gillis. John is swell in "Torchwood" and a great singer. I like seeing him in this.
