Bernadette Peters

Currently on Broadway knocking them dead in "A Little Night Music", Bernadette has always been a favorite of mine. She replaced Catherine Zeta-Jones in the role and the New York Times couldn't be gushing more. They call her performance of the song "Send in the Clowns" as, "an occasion of transporting artistry” and “an indelible moment in the history of musical theater.”

A few days later, the New York Times ran a nice follow-up feature on Ms. Peters. My favorite part:

"Ms. Peters is 62... But to say that Ms. Peters doesn’t look her age doesn’t begin to describe her seemingly eternal, Betty Boop-like girlishness. Her porcelain skin is untroubled by wrinkles. Her kewpie-doll smile defies gravity. When she turned up for lunch at an upper West Side restaurant recently, her eye-snagging bosom pillowed distractingly from a low-cut dress, and the humidity had injected an extra jolt of abandon into her trademark corkscrew curls."

Comic of the Week

George Michael "Freedom"

George Michael’s music has been playing a lot in my house recently. I got to hear his song “Freedom” for the first time in like umpteen years. I was surprised to see it was first released 20 years ago! OMG!

What was memorable about that song to me was the video. George didn’t want to be in it and recruited the super models of the day. Not some skinny bitch models who are unknown, but real, SUPER, MODELS!

Can you name them all? Linda! Naomi! Christy! And Cindy! Oh and there’s some other blonde chick (Tatjana) that no one cared about and some dudes (pretty boys, ick!) in the video too.

This was pre-restraining order Naomi. This was when Linda wouldn’t get out of bed in the morning for less than $10,000. This was pre-marriage for Christy (Hunky Ed) and Cindy (gross Richard & Randy). This was when “super model” was…um, super!

The song and video represented everything that was wrong (excess) and right (more excess) with the 1980s. Turn it up, fan boy! You know you want to!

Bridge Painter

The daily news is filled with so many horrible stories, it's kind of nice to read a simple human interest story.

This guy, Harry Fogel, worked on the original Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge, and even the Carquinez Bridge. He's 97 now and living in Citrus Heights.

As the SF Chronicle story states (here), "He is a laconic man, one of those ordinary people who did extraordinary work." Fascinating stuff!
