Offshore Drilling?

The apocalypse is here. Judas is in the house for a few more months and he will be raping the earth and all of us until he’s out. I’m so fucking proud.

Mark Morford “SF Chronicle”

Perhaps I'm missing something. Perhaps there's some dark, secret genius behind President Bush's otherwise absolutely imbecilic and dangerous corporate-whore move to lift the federal ban on offshore drilling, a ban placed there by his own father, as Dubya actually stood there with a straight face and tried to imply that this insidious move was meant to impart something good and helpful for a gas-stunned nation, that he was "doing all he could" to help with prices at the pump, when you could actually see the oil dripping from his shivery bones and the giant hand of Exxon shoved up his weak little spine, making his mouth move.

Yes I Drank Wine

The blog seems to be full of pictures of beer bottles and glasses. And I wanted to show that I did drink wine while in Germany.

Um...oops, that's a picture of a pilsner...sorry...BUT IT WAS DELICIOUS FOR FUCK SAKE!

Gay Germany

So how gay-friendly is Germany? I was pleasantly surprised. See for yourself by these snaps I took.
That's Humboldt University. Just across the street was the infamous book burnings by the Nazis in WWII. And now a gay pride flag snaps in the wind. Ahh...poetic justice...
A misfortunately named gay bar in Dresden. Ick. I read it's only gay on Mondays, so it's trying.
Yea, that's the Berlin Wall in the background. Damn, even the cabbies in Berlin are gay!
Not exactly gay, but something is lost in translation with this hotel in St. Goar. We like to think of it as some sort of Tranny hotel, aka pre-drag.
And finally the Christopher Street Parade poster in Munich. Sorry we missed it, but glad to see that rainbow all over the place!

Emmy Nominations

If nothing else, this nomination will be fodder for future episodes for Kathy. I want to keep her "My Life on the D List" on the air for a long, long time...! Woo hoo!

Maybe she'll get Mike Rowe on her show the way she did Cesar Dog-whisperer guy. Mmmm...Mike Rowe....

Shawn Colvin / Mary Chapin Carpenter

"One Cool Remove"

I've been a big Shawn Colvin fan for years. Her song-writing is intimate and intuitive. And her voice just breaks my heart.

When she did this song with Mary a couple years ago, I was giddy. It's fun to watch the video now. They're both fantastic!

Fridgewatcher

I know this is totally stupid, but it actually held my attention for a good 7 1/2 minutes.

Go to this website: Fridgewatcher.com

Yea, it's what the name implies. Someone started a blog of the insides of fridges. People send in snaps from all over the world of the inside of their fridge. I'm thinking of submitting mine.

The fridges from Germany are awfully tidy!

X-Files: I Want to Believe

I used to love this series and hung in there until they limped to the finish of the show. I'm glad they're making more movies and I look forward to seeing it.
In a recent "New York Times" article, the actors had this to say:

Gillian Anderson – “I walked in thinking, it’s going to be like riding a bicycle. It wasn’t. It was like riding a fucking unicycle. I’d been trying so hard to stretch myself in other roles, and to catch myself when I did anything that remotely resembles Scully, that when I was put back in the ring with her, my brain started misfiring.”

David Duchovny – “It’s been a while since I worked on those night shoots. I’d forgotten how bodily taxing it can be standing in the cold or trying to chase somebody down at 4 in the morning.” As for the Scully/Mulder relationship, “I’m not surprised people are still curious. It’s really the kind of weird marriage they have, that perfect and imperfect relationship, that gives life to the whole enterprise.”

Indiana Jones

This was the billboard in Germany. The translation is sooooo literal.
After spending yesterday catching up with all 3 Indiana flicks in a row, we went today to see this fourth one.

I have to say, I liked it. Good escapism - Spielberg's forte. But I'd have to rank this movie number 3 out of the 4 flicks. The first was the best - "Raiders of the Lost Arc" - followed by "Last Crusade". The second film "Temple of Doom" was a piece of shit (Spielberg's shit, to be sure, which in this case does stink).

But I couldn't help but be distracted in this film. Why was Karen Allen and Indiana so clean and neat? After all that running and rolling...neat as a pin! Feh.
