Tim's Chips

It's Friday night for me and a PERFECT time to discuss Tim's Chips. I discovered the tasty treats a few years back while at Costco. Their wasabi flavored chips caught my eye while shopping for a camping trip. They turned out to be the hit of the trip and a kick ass chip!
I keep a look out these days for new flavors. Today I found a whole new series of Mexican inspired flavors. While I was partial to the dill pickle flavor (a specialty they no longer make) and the habanero flavor, these caught me off guard. That's right loved ones... Mole flavored chips. How fucking rad is that?
While I'm not a huge fan of tamarind, "what's his name" is. So I bought 'em. What I didn't buy were a few other flavors I can't remember at the moment. But hunt these down...taste 'em...devour 'em...let those Washington state chip folks know you love them by buying those chips!

Obama in Berlin

Why Berlin, I asked. Well, besides the obvious comparisons to JFK [those comparisons by the media are always welcomed], it's the power of the German vote in the US.

Case in point:

"New York Times" - July 24, 2008

"Germany can be, well, pretty American sometimes. And often overlooked is just how German the United States really is.

"As the American ambassador noted when opening the new embassy to Germany on the Fourth of July, in the 2000 census the number of Americans reporting German ancestry was nearly 43 million, the highest tally of any group. That’s more than Irish or English or Italian, some five times the number claiming French roots and roughly the same number as African-American and Mexican combined.

"The Census Bureau said that every state in the Midwest reports Germany as the largest share of ancestry, with 44 percent in North Dakota and 43 percent in Wisconsin."

Viva La Fatherland, Obama!

"Caprica" Trailer

Oooohh...this looks gooooood....and it has Esai Morales in it....even better!

Check out this trailer, a prequel for the TV show "Battlestar: Gallactica" - called "Caprica".

BRING IT ON!

Laurie Anderson

I've been intrigued by Laurie Anderson for years, but have never had the courage to see her live. She seems way smarter than she should be and I fear that I'm just too stupid to understand her shows.

She's coming to the area where I live for her show "Homeland" and my interest has piqued...until I read the review of her show in New York. According to the "New York Times" (July 24, 2008), they say this:

"She affected wry detachment in one moment and astral wonderment in the next. At times her coolness cloaked tremors of panic. As a narrator she was not only unreliable but also mercurial, and often splintered as if through a prism.....The subject of 'Homeland' is manifold, and at 90 minutes it’s a bit too much of a ramble. Ms. Anderson sounds more curmudgeonly than clever..." (Read entire article here)

She also had Lou Reed appear with her on stage, adding to the cool factor. But I dunno. I may just have to enjoy her from a distance. I'll always remember her as the weird chick from "Language is a Virus". Then again, with the benefit of the web, you can enjoy it too.

"Long Way Down"

I was totally enamoured with "Long Way Round", reading the book and seeing the TV specials. It's nice to hear that they've done another journey called "Long Way Down", this time from Scotland to South Africa. They're doing a one-night only special screening in the theaters, but likely this will be on TV too. I can't wait. Ewan McGregor and Charlie Boorman are truly nuts!

Dior

I can't help but think of "Absolutely Fabulous" when I look at high fashion. Even these shots of Dior's fall collection have me thinking of Patsy and Edwina!

"Brideshead: Revisited"

Can't wait for the opening of this film too. Doesn't Emma Thompson look smashing?!!
Ahh...to have a milliner on staff...!

Queen Harish

I'm glad to see that Rajasthan is churning out the gorgeous drag queen dancers. And the fact that Queen Harish is married with kids, makes it all the more fun. Check out the article here. And watch her dazzle (below):

German Product Endorsements

Yea, yea...it was all too easy to spot. American TV actress whores herself out to European product and they dub her in 27 languages no self-respecting American wab will ever see...THINK AGAIN!

Eva Longoria was all over Germany on our trip - print ads, billboards, TV spots, you name it. Not that the product was bad...certain J friend had one!

But made me think of who else did we notice who "sold out" to the Europeans. Jane Fonda for L'Oreal. And Snoop Dogg in a mobile phone ad?

Yea, that's him. Couldn't belive it. Don't believe me? See for yourself in the TV ad for VybeMobile.

And finally - not to be thought of us as selling out, is darling Michael Ballack, team captain of Germany's national soccer team. Yea, if you're wearing a Germany T-shirt with the number 13...that's his number. Check out his wonderful ad:

Love that guy!

Midlife Crisis

In case you needed a soundtrack for your midlife crisis, here is it: John Mellencamp's new CD "Life, Death, Love, and Freedom". It's burning up my earbuds as I type. I just can't get enough. It's produced by T Bone Burnett who also did the Robert Plant / Alison Krauss CD from 2007 (I posted about that CD here)

The above isn't a real video, but rather 30 second samples from the whole record.
