STARNBERG, GERMANY - JUNE 13, 2011
People wearing traditional Bavarian costumes attend a religious mass to be held in honour of the 125th anniversary of the death of Bavarian King Ludwig II in front of the Votiv chapel at the shore of Starnberger See lake on June 13, 2011 in Berg, Germany.
Hundreds of people participated in the event to commemorate Ludwig, who was also known as Fairytale King Ludwig for his eccentricities that included the construction of elaborate palaces and castles, most notably Schloss Neuschwanstein.
Ludwig drowned in Starnberger See in 1886.
The state of Bavaria is marking the anniversary of his death with a series of events throughout the year.
